A frequently occurring thought seems to be: "Boo ceremony; yay family."
I'm still going to head to Africa on January 7th. My mom and dad lived in the Sudan for a good while, so they have been good company while doing some early planning. They're helping me get my head around some key points:
- Africa is really big.
- Africa is really hot.
- Africa can be dangerous.
- It's hard to get around within Africa.
- Kenn is ill-prepared for a trip to Africa - including but not limited to the trip he aims to start on January 7th.
Hey Kenn. Why not delay your departure just a little bit. Then you may be slightly more prepared for the realities of Africa. Eh?
ReplyDeleteLooking at the recent posts, point 5 is true to form. But they were still fun, no? I guess the problem is you can't just drop a rope and rappel back to Canada.
ReplyDeletebtw. Oh my god, people are posting on my blog. This is so cool! Thanks guys!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your legitimate concern (you freakin' nay-sayers :P).
ReplyDeleteMy African outing will come one step at a time; unfortunately, the first step truly does require both feet. I've learned a lot (not enough though) since I booked my plane tickets, and so far I still plan to take the jump even if feeling slightly ill-prepared.
The aid climb was a great day and a great experience regardless of our failure to achieve predetermined objective.
Today I learned about the train lines in Southern Africa. Excluding Botswana, it gave me a huge amount of hope regarding mobility during the rainy season. Yay!
ReplyDeletehope your xmas was wonderful. I'm glad you're starting to examine the potential difficulties that may arise on your trip, so that when you get there you'll be ready to have a great time!
